Boot Scootin' Backyard Rodeo

When the rodeo comes to Houston it's kind of a big deal; the outside world and conversations pretty much stop. You easily get sucked into the vortex called "the Houston Livestock and Rodeo" through bbq, roundups, funnel cakes, carnival rides, cowboys and so much more.... its glorious.

But when life happens and you're not able to get to the rodeo, i say "lets bring the rodeo to you." To keep your spirits high here's my latest Great Day Houston segment where I give tips to help you throw a hoot hollaring rodeo in your own backyard.

If you are having trouble with the video click on link below.

The Decor

Think blue jeans, leather, bandannas and burlap; add on sunflowers, succulents and painted lumber will always be a fan favorite.

i had this piece of wood from another project so i added some paint with a rodeo title and bam you've made your backyard rodeo official.

The Chili Cook Off

It "ain't" a rodeo without some beans or chili. (Houston has one of the largest chili cook offs in all the world and pretty proud of it!)

Have three to five of your creative competitive friends make their "famous" chili and have a mini chili cook off at the party.

Number off the chili pots and have the guest choose which one is their favorite.

Repurpose old cans as your chili bowls and in advance make paper sack utensil holders for an easy pick up and go so guest can quickly get their grub on.

The Games

If kids are there have them make their own pony on a stick and have them round up the adults as the adults ride them.

A good old fashion burlap sack race or three Legged race is always a fun laugh.

thanks to modern day technology there are many online diys that show you how to make a fun pony on a stick.

The Entertainment

One of the biggest drawls after the cook off of course is definitely the artist lineup at the rodeo. So ask a friend that can belt a note or two or hire a local college student studying music and have them sing 3-5 covers of one of the rodeo artists' big hits. This will be a fun surprise for the guests to enjoy!

Lauren and I right before my segment...she nailed it. PS that is Andre Johnson in the shadows...just a fun fact. :)

And for today's segment I had one of my darling friends who happens to have insanely beautiful vocals join me and bring the crescendo to the segment. Lauren (James) Camey rocked it and i have goofy pics to prove it. You should check out her cover over always be my baby. AH-mazing.

(Side note: one of my dreams is to ultimately have my own talk show (think regis and kathy lee) and bring on people i love and know and have them showcase their God given talent...and thanks to Great Day I got to do it today...ish.)

I always have so much fun doing Great Day here are a few highlights of the day.

I might have been called a lot of things but boring is not one of them. HA!

So boot scoot your booty to the backyard and throw the 2nd best Houston rodeo ever to be had. (I mean i don't know if its possible to trump the big daddy one. :)

YEEHAW!
